Important Wrestling Update VWC

Parents,

I have a few important points to cover with everyone.  Please read carefully.

1)      USA Wrestling membership

2)      Track wrestling #

3)      Pre-registration for all tournaments

4)      Thursday night weigh in (Required)

5)      Season schedule

1)      USA wrestling membership number.  Your son will not be able to wrestle if he does not have this card or number.  It is required at every tournament.  You will have to show this card every time you register for a tournament.  If you have not already gotten your USA Card please do so as soon as possible.   www.themat.com .  Please sign up under Vestavia Wrestling Club.

2)      The second membership number is Track Wrestling.  We use track wrestling at every tournament.  This is an on-line tournament software that brackets all the weight classes.  You must also provide this number at every tournament.  If you wrestled in any tournament last year you already have track wrestling number and can use the same number and you do not need to register againwww.trackwrestling.com

Here is the information you will need to register for a track wrestling number:

1)      Go to the membership option on the left side of the web page.

2)      The registration screen will ask for the following information:

a.       First name

b.      Last name

c.       DOB

d.      Team:  Vestavia Wrestling Club (This is very important that you spell this correctly and type out the full name)

e.      Home Town: Vestavia Hills

f.        Your email

g.       USA wrestling number (if you have it)

h.      Approx weight

i.        Grade

j.        Select register and follow the instructions from there.

Once you have both the USA wrestling number and the track wrestling number please write the track wrestling number on the back of the USA wrestling Card.  You will need this at every tournament.  Please do not forget.

3)      This year we conduct all weigh-ins for all tournaments except State at the Church on Thursday before every tournament after practice.  You must make your weight on Thursday at practice.  You will NOT be able to weigh on Saturday, NO EXCEPTIONS.

4)      This year all tournaments are requiring pre-registration via trackwrestling.  After your son has made weight on Thursday night you will need to pre-register you son for the appropriate weight class and age division by Thursday night at midnight.  You will NOT be able to sign up to wrestle after Thursday at midnight.  The USA Team Alabama board is requiring pre-registration (and I support).  Our goal is to make Saturday run more efficient and hopefully shorten the tournament time.  All other states require pre-registration.  If you plan to wrestle in 2 age divisions (for example Novice and Schoolboy) you will need to pre-register for both age divisions on Thursday.  The cost for each tournament is increased from $10 to $12.  For those parents who son’s that have wrestled before this is the exact some process you have to go through for the State tournament.

Our first weigh-in will be Thursday, December 2nd for the Saturday, December 4th tournament                 at Homewood.

Below is the tournament schedule for the wrestling season.

USA Folkstyle Season

1.      December 4 Homewood Invitational

2.      December 11 Cougar Classic (Clay)

3.      December 17 Piedmont Beginner's Bash

4.      December 18 Hoover Invitational

5.      December 29 Dixie Nationals (Atlanta, GA)

6.      January 08 Alabama Kids Duals (Alabaster)

7.      January 15 Trussville Challenge

8.      January 22 NAWA Open (Southside-Gadsden)

9.      January 29 Eagle Invitational (Calera)

11.  February 12 The Warrior Challenge (Alabaster)

Subject: State Tournament wrestling update

Parents please read carefully.  I have several items to cover.

1)      State tournament-registration

2)      Seeding meeting and your help

State tournament-registration

The state wrestling tournament is February 19 and 20th at Hoover High School.

We need everyone registering for the state tournament.  This is the only tournament that has team point and awards a team state championship by age division and overall.  The more wrester we have the more points we can score.  I need everyone to register and wrestle at the state tournament.

The state tournament is different than any other tournament.  The state tournament requires you to preregister using the Track wrestling website by Wednesday, February 10th.  You must register and pay for the state tournament on line.  The cost is $15 per wrestler.  You must have your track wrestling number and USA Wrestling number in order to register.  Please go ahead and register today there will be no extension on the deadline.

Rules for state and registration:

1)      For Bantam, Intermediate and Novice you must have wrestled in the specific weight class at least once to qualify for that weigh class.

2)      Once you register you cannot change weight classes.  You must wrestle in the weight class you register to wrestle.  There will be no exceptions.

3)      Bantam, Intermediate and Novice will receive a 1 lb growth allowance for the state tournament.  So if your son wrestled at 55 he will receive 1 lb and will be allowed to weigh 56.

4)      Middle school will receive 2 lbs and there is not pre-qualification rule for MS weight classes.

Use the below link and then select Pre-register now option on the track wrestling website.

Seeding meeting and your help

The state tournament is the only tournament were we seed wrestlers. Seeding means we rank wrestlers 1-4 based upon a set criteria.  Sometimes we will seed up to  8 spots in a large weight class.  The seeding allows us to separate the best wrestlers in each bracket.

We will have the coaches seeding meeting this coming Sunday and will need the below information by Thursday so we can make sure your son is seeded correctly.

This is very important.  If your son has placed in any tournament I will need your help with the following:

1)      I need your sons wrestling record by age division and by weight class and overall record.

2)      I need a summary of each place your son has taken at each tournament by weigh class if he has wrestled in more than 1 weigh class.

3)      I need a listing of key head to head opponents and overall record of key opponents. The more the detail you provide the better.

4)      If he has wrestled outside of Alabama I need overall record, tournament and placement summary.

All of the above information is stored in track wrestling.  Track wrestling can be a little cumbersome to understand so be patient and start gather this information now.  I have assigned a coach to each age group and you will need to bring them this information and give them this information in an organized and neat manner so we can use this information in our coaches meeting.

This is information is due this Thursday at practice.  Please start on this now and have it complete by Thursday.  We will not have time to handle any late information.

Bantam – Christian Staylor

Intermediate – Chris Smith

Novice – Phillip McCallum

Schoolboy- Dean Paugh

If you have any questions please contact the assigned coach or myself.
