wrestling update- goal setting and tournament reminder

Parents,

Attached are the results of the Tallassee tournament.  We had a small group of wrestlers but we had good results. (see attached)

Practice:

We will be back to our normal practice times the week of  Monday, January 4th.  As a reminder our January 4th practice will be used to training the parents on how to score a wrestling match.  Please see email sent by Dean Paugh last week.  It is also posted on our website in the news and information section.

Tournament:

We are hosting our tournament this weekend at Liberty Park Middle School.  We will need everyone’s help to make this successful.  You should have received emails from Allyson McLean regarding volunteer times and where to serve.  Please sign up today.  We have a lot work to do this week.

Goal setting:

I believe wrestling teaches our sons a great deal about life.  To borrow a quote from an article about wrestling:

“So what are these lessons of life that our great sport teaches you? I suppose they are infinite, but allow me to pinpoint a few: intensity, focus, discipline, goal-setting, determination and perseverance. To be successful on the mats, in school, or in the work place, you must possess these characteristics. I feel wrestling can teach you these better than any other sport.”

Now that we have 3 tournaments behind us and everyone has some expectations, I am asking each of you to discuss setting a wrestling goal with your son.  This is between you and him.  The goal can be at any level.  It can be to  win the state championship, win a match, place in a tournament, place in state, not get pinned, etc.  Attached is a goal sheet where you can write down one goal and 3 things your son is committing to do to reach his goal.

If your son fills out the sheet and turns the sheet in to me by Thursday, January 7th, then if he accomplished his goal by the end of the season, he will be recognized at the end of the year team party for his achievement.   In order to keep up with his goals, I need your help.  Once your son achieves his goal please send your team mom an email that states your son has reached they goal that he has set.

Please turn in by January 7th, If  you turn it in later than the 7th it will not be recognized at the end of the year.  This is an administrative challenge to keep up with so please bring it on the 7th if you want to participate.

Our team is doing great.  It is time to go to the next level.

David
